Crawford’s Slip Writing Method – Generating Ideas From Many Contributors

Before coming to Crawford’s Slip Writing Method. It is very important to know that this method was developed by Crawford in the USA in the 1920s, for gathering ideas from large groups (even up to 5000 people, though much easier to handle with, say, 50–200), and has been subsequently adopted by Clark.

It is in effect one of the earliest forms of brain writing, and for small groups. And it reduces to a simple ‘private idea generation’ phase. It is used with large gatherings of people in, say, a lecture theatre or hall. It is in many respects the text predecessor of a modern radio or TV ‘phone-in’.

    WHAT’S IN IT

What is Crawford’s Slip Writing Method

    Crawford's Slip Writing Method

The Crawford slip method is a tool for use by managerial craftsmen; managers who take pride in their repertoire of relevant tools will certainly want to add this method to their tool bags. There will be many occasions when this tool is the right one for use in their organizations.

Educators and training professionals who engage in the development of managers will find the Crawford slip method a valuable addition to their curricula. The slip method can readily be taught in courses on management analysis, administrative management, and managerial research methods, and in applied behavioral science courses which address managerial problem-solving.

    Crawford’s Slip Writing Method Technique

    Crawford's Slip Writing Method

    1. Set the scene – Give some sets of paper slips to everyone in your group. Depending on how many ideas you want back, give them anything from 5 to 30 slips. You can use chopped up pieces of paper.

Use it when you want to get ideas from a large group of people. You’ll get lots of ideas but no sorting or filtering (or group discussion). Not an engagement technique.

    2. Ask for ideas – Ask the group for ideas on a topic. Be specific, depending on how wide a range of responses you are wanting. Tell them to write at least one idea per slip.

Use it when you do not have time or ability to discuss ideas, and just want to collect people’s thoughts.

    3. Collect the answers – When they are slowing down and running out of ideas, or after a predetermined period (usually several minutes), ask them to hand in the slips.

Use it when you want to engage with your audience, by giving them a sense of involvement.

    4. Collate the answers – Off-line, you can explore and collate the answers, for example, grouping them into similar categories and using these to trigger further thoughts.

The Crawford’s Slip Writing Method Application

    Crawford's Slip Writing Method Application

The Crawford slip method is a systems analysis tool for many uses. Its basic role is to IMPROVE some useful activity in which you are involved. Its range of possible applications is very broad. Let’s look at some typical ones.

    1. Activities that need improving

YOUR purpose in using the Crawfordslip method will be to improve something for which YOU are responsible. This may be in work or management. It may relate to your job, family, religion, personal life, recreation, or civic affairs.

You might use the Crawford slip method to improve an aircraft factory, a senior centre, a hospital rehabilitation program, or an automobile dealership. You might use it to improve the morale of engineers, training of purchasing agents or writing a speech or thesis.

Or you might want to improve the design or production of some new products, such as a washing machine or home computer. Some of YOUR needs may be unique, unlike those of anyone else. They are open to a great deal of creativity. Even a small think tank might greatly extend your creative reach.

    2. Situations where the method works best

Think tank effort should be applied selectively. Some activities especially need to think tank attention. The need increases with organizational size, technological complexity, and interdependence.

Are you in a BIG organization? Is your activity a high-technology one? Are there many MOVING PARTS that must mesh or interact in ultra-precise ways? Are many different persons, disciplines, specialities, or jurisdictions interlocked in mutually dependent roles? The more things or people involved, the greater the need for better ways to coordinate and streamline them.

    3. Reduction of unknowns as a think tank goal

Do you ever feel all alone or overwhelmed as you decide big issues in the face of too many unknowns? Somebody else may be an expert in what is unknown to you.

Different people may each know some fraction of what you need for your problem. The think tank principle combines these fractions. It can add hundreds or thousands of insights that are now carried in separate brains. As a lone thinker, you may risk a dangerous leap in the dark. Use those other brains.

    4. Need for diagnosis

A typical starting point is a diagnostic analysis. In many situations, the think tank can “X-ray the patient” and reveal the trouble spots in activities that are “opaque” to you. Call this difficulty ANALYSIS. It involves identifying the troubles, difficulties, deficiencies, obstacles, or imperfections in the activity that is to be improved. You can’t possibly be aware of all of these.

A group of people can supply perceptions from different vantage points. Their combined inputs can give you a much better grasp of what is wrong. Pinpointing the perceived troubles is the first step toward more precise analyses of possible remedies.

    5. Need for remedial analysis

Identifying the troubles is a long step toward finding remedies. We need better and more rapid ways to find those remedies. Those closest to the troubles are often keenly aware of needed remedies.

Managers or generalists can often benefit from workers’ remedial suggestions. These suggestions are often hard to get because of fear to speak out and risk criticism or reprisal. The Crawford slip method is not only a RAPID way to collect remedial options.

It can get these SAFELY and INDEPENDENTLY. Later chapters spell out how this is done.

    6. Need for PENETRATION into new situations or problems

The think tank can help you especially when you get a new assignment. As a “new-broom person”‘ you may be unable to sleep at all until you scout your floor space. Present personnel can give you some much-needed briefings if they can do it safely.

Your being new allows you to ask for these briefings without loss of face. The Crawford slip method can give you tremendous help in a single workshop session with those willing and able helpers. This book tells more about how.

    7. Think tanks for training programs

Better training is often the key to improving an activity. But who needs to learn how to do what? The diagnosis of troubles, errors, and deficiencies is an ideal identification of training needs.

The remedial analyses can supply training content. The looseleaf feature of the Crawford slip method makes organic action and manual writing much easier. Involvement of those affected, whether trainees, managers, or interfacing colleagues, helps with implementation.

The method originated as a tool for TRAINING. Even when used to improve management, it often involves the training of people who create management problems, in addition to training managers themselves.

The Crawford’s Slip Writing Method (CSM) is a simple yet effective type of brainstorming technique that gives the opinions of all team member equal weight, however quiet they are. Crawford’s Slip Writing Method is often the most efficient means of generating ideas and organizing them quickly into categories.

    Conclusion

In this blog we have discussed about the crawford slip writing method. Crawford slip writing method is a simple and effective method that allows all the team members to give their opinions carry equal weights. We have also discussed various methods of slip writing.

  • Internet Search: Tips to find easily what you want on the internet

Internet Search: Tips to find easily what you want on the internet

The Internet is loaded with tons of information. Sometimes, searching on the internet can be frustrating as with so many results for a particular search, it can be at times, become confusing and overwhelming.

Your search for a word or a phrase or a topic inside the search box of an internet search engine and as you tap enter, so many results pages with hundreds to thousands of possible websites will appear on your screen. But, when you click on the results shown, you can often get so much irrelevant information.

Many times you get your desired information in small bits on different pages and for this, you have to click for so many search results to compile up what you need. This can become so time-consuming and frustrating for the user. It can be due to the heavily loaded of information or misinformation on the internet but also can be more of your inability to find the exact thing you want to search.

In this article, we will discuss some of the ways to get specific results for what you search on the internet.

    WHAT’S IN IT

    Chose specific keywords:

When you type something in the search box to find content, that particular word or phrase is the keyword for which the search engine will show the result.

Keywords can be of single or two words like obesity, macronutrients, alkaline water, vegetarian diet, etc. or a phrase like ‘how to prevent cancer, ‘obesity in children or long-tail keywords like ‘adverse health effect of energy drinks on young people’, ‘lifestyle modifications for diabetes and high blood pressure management etc. You need to identify your keywords for which you want the search result. Keep it very specific to your search intent.

Say, for example, you want to buy a shoe online. If you simply type shoes or leather shoes then it will show very broad results including every kind of shoes. So, you need to narrow down your search result. Be more specific of what type of shoes, say, for example, black leather shoes for parties.

    Try to avoid linking words:

    avoid-linking-words

Simplify your search terms by not using stop words or linking words such as if, but, of, to, in, on, the, etc. Many search engines include these words in their searches, thus using these kinds of vague words may clutter up your search results and also take a longer time to achieve the result.

So, it is better to avoid stop words unless you are searching for a specific title or a phrase that includes them.

For example: if you want to learn about tidal charts of the Indian Ocean. Enter only the keywords skipping linking words, say, tidal charts of the Indian Ocean.

    Use quotation marks:

    use-quotation-marks

If you want to find an exact match for your search query, you should enclose the search term within quotation marks. Using a phrase inside the quotation marks, the search engine will search for the entire phrase as a single entity rather than all the individual words that are contained in the phrase.

This will avoid search engines from listing the pages that use each component words separately.

For example: If you want to search for a book with the title you can win, typing it within the quotation marks will ensure you will get the results for that particular book only.

Use Boolean Logical Operators: Boolean logical operators (AND, OR, NOT) are used to exclude or include the items in a search. The use of boolean search terms is one of the best ways to avoid the long list of links for a keyword.

These logics will guide search engines to analyze and present results based on your intent rather than simply finding every word in the keyword.

For example, if you are looking for information on summer fruits but do not want information on mango then you can type like this: summer fruits -mango. This will exclude the mango from its search making it easier to find the information that you are looking for.

Note: Put the minus sign directly before the word that you wish to exclude. Also, the way of entering logical operators may vary for different search engines.

    Use various internet search engines:

    search-engines

Google may be the most powerful search engine created till now. but there are other search engines also which can provide better results for specific searches.

Explore other internet search engines also like Bing, Dogpile, Hotbot, DuckDuckGo, Yahoo, etc. You should not restrict or limit yourself to any particular search engine. Keep exploring others also to get your desired result.

    Conclusion

The internet is very vast. Information present here for any topic is abundant. Accessing the right information can sometimes be confusing and time-consuming. To get a precise result, you need to be very specific about your search.

You need to use your keywords in a specific and simplified way to get the desired information. You can also make use of quotation marks to narrow down searches to particular words and phrases. Also, using boolean operators will refine your search based on what you want to exclude or include.

Last but not least, you should broaden your search resources. Try using multiple internet search engines and not restricting yourself to the use of any particular one.

  • Herrmann’s Whole Brain Model – Maximizing Your Thinking Power

Herrmann’s Whole Brain Model – Maximizing Your Thinking Power

The whole-brain model generally focuses on how we can use our brain and thinking power with full potential. We prefer different kinds of mental processes of thinking in different tasks.

In the last three decades – due to the vast improvement in technology and neuroscience, we are also able to look up inside the processing and thinking way of the brain.

This theory was also come up with looking into the process of the brain and improving the way of thinking by taking an adequately designed assessment.

    WHAT’S IN IT

    What is Whole Brain Model?

    whole-brain-model-of-thinking

Then the developer of whole-brain thinking divides our brain mainly into four parts, which we use for our thinking process. Based on the developer’s data, 5 % of all human beings of earth use only one part of the brain for their thinking process; 58% prefer to use only two parts of the brain, and 34 % use three parts.

But only 3 % of our total population use the entire four parts or complete our brain for thinking. So the researcher has developed a whole-brain concept, through which an individual can learn how to use his whole brain thinking for doing a task like the 3 % of our total population.

William Ned Herrmann proposes the whole brain model while he was working at management education at General Electric’s Hortonville facility.

There, Herrmann was given a task by their management to make their managers more creative thinkers. Due to this, He started researching about the thinking process of the brain. After doing a lot of research, Herrmann developed a theory ‘Whole-brain thinking” over the brain’s thinking style.

    Four modes of thinking style

    four-models-thinking-style-of-herrmann's-whole brain-model

This Whole-brain thinking brain model suggests that all human beings have four different modes of thinking style that are used by them while learning.

The four dominant modes of thinking according to Herrmann are:-

    • Analytical thinking,
    • Sequential thinking,
    • Interpersonal thinking,
    • Imaginative thinking.

Every thinking style has its own characteristics and eventually differs from each other.

    Analytical thinking

The person who prefers this thinking has high levels of logical thinking. Thus the keywords that are related to these thinking are:-

    • Logical,
    • Technical,
    • Critical,
    • Factual And
    • Quantitative.

The activities that are generally preferred by these thinkers are:-

    • Collection and analysis of data,
    • Understanding how things work,
    • Doing logical reasoning,
    • Analyzing and judging facts.

    Sequential thinking

People with this thinking have strong planning with detail. Thus the keywords related to these thinking are:-

    • Planned,
    • Structured,
    • Organized,
    • Detailed.

The activities generally done by these thinkers are:-

    • Solve Problem With Step By Step,
    • Organizational,
    • Implementation,
    • Follow Directions.

    Interpersonal thinking

Interpersonal preferred thinkers are great in communication as well as interpersonal skills. Thus the keywords that are related to these thinking are:-

    • Spiritual,
    • Emotional,
    • Kinesthetic Etc.

The activities generally done by these thinkers are:-

    • Group interaction,
    • Listening ideas and expressing ideas,
    • Grow spirituality etc.

    Imaginative thinking

Imaginative thinking generally focuses on the future area.

Those who prefer Imaginative thinking are high in holistic and in imagination also.

Thus the keywords related to these thinking are:-

    • Conceptual,
    • Holistic,
    • Innovative,
    • Visual etc.

The activities that are generally preferred by these thinkers are:-

    • Long term thinking process,
    • Looking at the primary goal of life,
    • Creative problem solving,
    • Taking the initiative etc.

    Parts of Brain By Herrmann

    parts-of-brain-herrmann's

Herrmann also describes the model of whole-brain through our cerebral system and Limbic system.

He breaks our brain into four parts through the left and right brain and the Cerebral system and Limbic system.

    The four parts are:-

    • Left cerebral and Right cerebral ( upper part of the brain )
    • Left limbic and Right limbic ( lower part of the brain ).

Theory suggests that generally, the upper brain or the Cerebral system controls our intellectual process, whereas the emotional response is controlled by our lower brain or the Limbic system.

So as a result, the Left cerebral is responsible for analytical thinking, and the Right cerebral is responsible for imaginative thinking. The left limbic system is responsible for sequential thinking, whereas the Right limbic system is responsible for interpersonal thinking.

Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument ( HBDI )

Based on the whole-brain theory, Herrmann created an assignment – one of the brain’s highest models known as Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument ( HBDI ).

It is generally designed to test which thinking we prefer styles at the time of learning and up to what level we are using the preferred thinking style. Thus The assessment provides you with complete knowledge of your way of thinking.

The HBDI consists of approximately 120 questions that you have to answer to complete the test.

These 120 questions are from different areas of your life, like your hobbies, education, work, logical thinking, feeling, emotions, creativity, and many more.

After completing the Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument ( HBDI ), you get to know that from out of four thinking, which thinking style you prefer at what level needs improvement. You can use your four parts of your brain to come up under 3 % of the population in terms of thinking.

What do you get from HBDI Consultation?

    consulatation using Whole brain model

HBDI ( Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument ) assessment is a self-development instrument designed so that after completing these 120 questions, you can use your four thinking parts of your brain that is the Whole Brain.

Thus, Herrmann offers his consulting programs through workshops, books, etc. to improve creativity, communication, or other benefits to an individual and a team.

From this assessment, you got to know how you work based on your thinking preference and what can be improved without losing a lot of time.

If you once learn the technique of using all the parts of your brain for the thinking process, you can use it in all the aspects of life, which ultimately improves the efficiency of your learning and productivity.

Business personnel and their team love to use HDBI because they can get much more learning in less time, which creates a win-win situation for this type of professionals.

    Conclusion

Herrmann’s whole-brain thinking shows that generally, four types of thinking processes are required to think better. These are Analytical thinking, Sequential thinking, Interpersonal thinking, Imaginative thinking.

Herrmann divides our brain into four parts based on thinking as the Right and Left Cerebral system & Right and Left Limbic system. The four parts are associated with the above four types of thinking processes. To be a better thinker, we should always be able to use all the four parts of the brain, which ultimately makes us more productive.

To make a person more productive, after a lot of research, Herrmann makes an assessment known as HBDI ( Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument ).

After taking the HBDI assessment, An individual finds which part of the brain he is using ideally and which needs to be improved And also suggests ways to use the four parts of the brain more efficiently.

Business people and other professionals always prefer Herrmann’s HBDI due to their insight and knowledge of thinking without losing a lot of time and energy, making them more productive thinkers than before.

    Theories of Personality-

    personality-theories

There are four types of personality theories-

    Psychoanalytic theory-

Sigmund Freud gave this theory in 1949. He said that Personality is of 3 types of ID, EGO, SUPEREGO.

    ID-

This is the theory in which a person’s behaviour is immediate gratification or immediate satisfaction. So his needs are biological or instinctual. The person is unconscious about what he is doing.

    Ego-

In this theory, The person is conscious. Therefore, the person thinks with logic about human Personality, and he is associated with the reality principle.

    Super Ego-

This is the theory in which a person learns about the values and norms of society & serves as an ethical constraint on behavior. Which helps the person make better decisions.

    Social- Psychological Theory-

Karen Horney gave this theory in 1937.

In this, the person helps to meet society’s needs; as a result, society helps him achieve his goals. So, in this, the person is conscious of his needs and wants.

    Trait Theory-

In this theory, the person has a quantitative approach means it makes one person different from another.

This theory determines the behaviour of a person who is introverted and who is extrovert.

    Self Theory-

Cart Rogers gives this theory. This is also known as Field Theory. In this theory person always think about himself.

There is 4 type of self-theory that is Self Image, Ideal Self, Looking Glass Self, and Real Self.

    Maslow’s Theory-

    maslows-theory

He was the first to the introduced theory of needs in 1943. He tells that there are five levels of needs of the person.

    Physiological Needs-

This is the basic need of a person, which means a person cannot live without food, water, clothes, or shelter.

    Safety Needs-

This is the second level need, which comes when his physiological need is fulfilled. In this, he needs financial security, health, and wellness, safety against accidents and injury.

    Love/belonging Needs-

This is a third level need that comes when his physiological and safety needs are fulfilled. In this, he needs friends, family, social groups, etc.

    Esteem Needs-

This is the fourth level need, which comes when his physiological, safety, and love/belonging needs are fulfilled. In this, he wants respect from society, friends, family.

    Self-Actualization Needs-

This is the last level of need, which comes when his physiological, safety, love/belonging, esteem needs are fulfilled.

In this, he wants to achieve his goal, and once he achieves his goal, it means satisfaction of his actualization need.

    Factors Affecting Personality-

There are five types that affect a person-

    Biological Factor-

This is an essential factor that affects a person’s Personality because every child observes their parents, their habits, how they talk, how they walk, and everything.

Therefore their physical and psychological characteristic is the same as their parents, which becomes part of their Personality.

    Social Factor-

This is also an essential factor that affects a person’s Personality because when he interacts with different people in society or group, they can be good or bad, but it depends upon him that which person association he or she keeps.

Society plays a crucial role in affecting a person’s personality.

    Cultural Factor-

This is also another factor that affects the person Personality when he moves to another culture.

He interacts with different people from different cultures. Which means that their way of living is different; their way of talking is different, their way of wearing clothes is different and many more things.

Still, it depends upon him that which person association he or she keeps.

    Physical Environment-

It also affects a person’s Personality, including land, river, atmosphere, forests, hills, mountains, etc.

All the feelings, emotions, and health of a person are due to Physical Environment, even the colour of a person depends upon the physical environment.

For example,- You can see the difference between urban and rural people’s health, colour, knowledge, and body structure.

    Situational Factor-

This is also an essential factor that affects a person Personality, which varies from person to person.

They act differently according to situations; for example, a teacher reacts strictly in front of the student and not strict in front of his family.

    Types of Personality-

    Introvert Personality-

These are that type of people who do not like to make new friends. And moreover, they do not want to interact with an unknown person.

They want to live in their imaginary world. And they want to live alone in their room. For example, teachers.

    Extrovert Personality-

These are that type of people who like to interact with new people. Therefore they want to make new friends and loved to join new groups with more members.

They like to live with many people in the room. For example, divers.

    Ambivert Personality-

These are those types of people who are the combination of both Introvert and extrovert Personality.

So, they do not have any problem living with any type of parties some time they live alone in the room, and sometimes they live in groups in the room.

    Conclusion-

In my opinion, the Personality of a person differs from person to person. Five factors affect this that is a biological factor, social factor, cultural factor, physical environmental factor, and situational factor.

A person’s personality can be changed from bad to good Personality by the social factor, cultural factor, physical environmental factor, and situational factor.

The Leadership pipeline model – Develop your organization’s future leaders

Great leadership can bring great success to the company. But, if you ever ask the businessman the most difficult or important parts of the business, Businessman’s will say many things. One similar thing you will notice is identifying, developing or recruiting the leaders and ‘The leadership pipeline model’ will help in it.

Choosing the right leaders is a really hard and confusing thing. Without proper leadership, the company will fall and the lives of many people will be disrupted.

The leadership pipeline model is a very impactful and successful model for developing leaders in our organisation. Focusing on the different tiers of leaders would make a successful smooth workflow of the company because the distribution of the work will be well organized.

    WHAT’S IN IT

Who introduced the leadership pipeline model?

In the 1970s, Walter Mahler described the theory of shift in work and values at different stages of the organization. Mahler’s model was implemented in over 80 companies across the US.

Then in 2000, Ram Charan, James Noel and Stephen J. Drotter developed Mahler’s ideas further in their book ‘The Leadership Pipeline.

The Leadership Pipeline book was written by the three persons mentioned above, who has 30 years of business consultancy experience and has worked with several Fortune 500 companies.

Benefits of using the leadership pipeline model

The company requires leaders who have the necessary skill for a particular position. Recruiting or developing these many leaders is too hard.

This model is helping us to develop the leaders in our organization. Thus further we don’t need to worry about developing leaders.

The authors have distributed the model at 6 different levels of leadership.

These levels are arranged in a way that the person starts from focusing on him or herself and as the level increases the person starts being more team-oriented from self-oriented.

Levels are designed in the way that the person who is doing work on one particular level is eventually being ready for the next level.

Level 1: Managing Self to Managing Others

    The Leadership Pipeline Model

This is the tier where most of the newcomers are working. Who are recruited on behalf of professional or tech skill? We are assuming that they don’t have the leadership quality to manage others.

At this level, the employees are working with their professional knowledge they already had before joining the company.

And simultaneously they are being ready for the next level by learning to plan work, assigning work, managing time, While working in this tier they also get to know the culture and curriculum of the company.

Level 2: Managing Others to Leading Managers

This tier is very important and most companies make a big mistake by not caring too much about this.

This level is important because now the newly promoted person who has just completed the first level is going to mentor the new employees who are the future leaders of the company.

Now, In the 2nd level, the employees have taken some responsibility for the newcomers.

Now in the second level, he or she is not going to apply their professional knowledge and do the work. In the second level, they have to organize the team under them, they have to motivate and inspire them.

The second level pushes them to become a leader and only focus on managing the team.

Which is completely different from the first level. In the first level, they have to become self-oriented and have nothing to do with anyone else.

Level 3: Leading Managers to Functional Manager

In the third stage, they are playing the role of leading manager and learning the qualities required for a functional manager. Maybe a very big difference is not visible to you in between these two levels.

But, in the company, there is a big difference between these two.

The functional manager needs to enhance the communication skill as a leader. And he doesn’t have to manage things properly, he also has to try new things that improve the company.

Level 4: Functional manager to business manager

From this level, the main leadership skills are gonna be used. At this level, the person will start making decisions. The business manager should provide and organize money and resources.

The business manager is the one who analyzes the past, present and future and makes good decisions for the company.

They should make sure that the financial requirement is fulfilling and the workflow is running smoothly.

Level 5: Business manager to group manager

At this stage, the business manager is getting ready for group management. The group manager has to look as broad as can. He has to develop his perspective toward the company.

Group managers have to develop the skill to identify the person who is talented enough to encourage and support others, instead of doing this thing on their own. At this stage, the leader has to focus on capitalization.

The group manager has to provide the right strategy to the employees at the right time.

Mentoring will become one of the main things on which leaders have to work at this stage. As we talked about before, he or she has to look for the business problem in very broad terms.

The group manager is keeping his eyes on the operations which are performed in the company.

He has to close such old operations which are no longer bringing good results to the company and start new ones which are going to be profitable in future.

Level 6: Group manager to enterprise manager

    Leadership Pipeline Model

On the last stage, great leadership skill is required. And The leadership pipeline model is developed as whoever is promoted to the next level has gained the knowledge and skill which is gonna require.

So, the leader who has reached this stage will have good leadership skill. Other skills like communication skills and others are involved in the leadership skill.

Enterprise managers have to think visionary, they should see the path which is not made yet.

But, this doesn’t mean that these tier leaders don’t have to manage the short term things.

They have to focus on that also. Enterprise managers have to keep an eye on almost every aspect of the company but the main thing they have to have is the long term vision.

Thee Leaders should work more on the vision instead of strategic plans. At the same time, they have to take charge of the whole organization.

    Conclusion

The leadership pipeline model is found very successful and many big corporates have accepted this model.

The great thing about this model is, the workflow will become clear and the main problem, appointing the right leader for the right work, is solved. And employees’ skill is continuously improving.

  • Managing your Boss – Developing an Effective Work Relationship

Managing your Boss – Developing an Effective Work Relationship

We spend most of the day in our working field & nobody wants one single thing in their work is to have a bad relationship with their bosses. Hence, maintaining a good work relationship with your boss becomes one of the efficient ways of doing it.

And the majority of the people do their work by tolerating the hardships which are the outcome of the bad work relationship with bosses which can become a hurdle to do your job productively.

And some get involved in manipulation & tricks which won’t take you far in the long run.

You need to understand one simple thing is there are always two entities required for any relationship to form. So in order to manage any kind of work relationship, first you need to manage yourself before managing anyone.

To win over your boss you don’t need to apply any kind of manipulation & tricks. All it takes is to be great at your work, that would in itself lead to a good & strong relationship with your manager.

And some ethical & effective ways which I have shared below about how to manage your boss effectively.

    WHAT’S IN IT

Understand your Boss on a human level:

    understand-your-boss

You must understand that the boss is not just a being who’s there just to give a raise or promotion according to the job you have done in the past. They also have their life outside of the corporate world, they also have their life goals, aspiration, pressure, issues, strength, weakness, blind spots or to become the best boss possible.

So, how to manage your boss effectively by understanding that your boss is also a human.

Try to understand him/her on a human level is the beginning of managing your work relationship well with your boss.

Become a man with a solution:

In today’s world everyone comes up with a different list of problems, but only a few can come up with a solution.

And when you are working in an organization there will be multiple problems in it, so don’t be a spectator just become a participant in solving the problem & come up with the idea to solve it in the process of doing so you would be able to create good work relationship with your boss and become a star performer.

Everyone considered that man a problem solver who doesn’t get more hyper by looking at the crisis, instead of that they calmly think over the problem, that how can I fix it.

Be a person in your organization who comes up with an idea to fix the problem or at least never bring the problem to the table of your boss without any idea on your mind.

This is how to manage your boss effectively, by becoming a problem solver.

    Always take Suggestions:

    maintaining work relationship

Whenever a salesman sells something they always take feedback from the customers whenever a customer service executive communicates with the customers they always try to take feedback before they hang up the call? Why?

Because by taking feedback customers will feel important

And it will help salesmen & customer executives to gather information about customer likes or dislikes.

The same psychology you must apply when you are dealing with your boss. If you always ask for your boss’s suggestions, it shows that you care about the point of view of your boss, the hunger you have for learning from him/her.

And eventually, it will benefit you as well because you will get experienced suggestions.

    Be Supportive:

Do you know the best way to manage your boss effectively is by showing your support?

You have to figure out a way to know about your boss’s ambition & goals for his/her organization. Where he/she wanted their organization to be & what step they’re going to take to achieve that.

Once you figured it out, then you need to provide support in any way to reach their goal. This will help you to make a strong relationship with your boss.

    Be Accountable:

Whatever happens in anyone’s life, career, or in a relationship happens due to their action taken in the past or present.

We are the one who is solely responsible for every event which happened in our life whether it’s good or bad. Our own action creates our reality. We can’t blame someone else for any mishaps or bad events in our life, it’s happened due to our bad choice.

If you show this quality in your organization & take full responsibility or full accountability for your bad decision instead of pointing out your finger to the other member of your group. And you also have preventive measures with you so that it won’t get repeated again.

Then this act will surely be appreciated because in today’s world everyone’s ready to take full credit for the nice thing.

But nobody likes to step-up for being accountable for the mishaps at work or anywhere.

This is how to manage your boss effectively, by being accountable.

    Speak for Yourself if needed:

Not every time you can agree with your boss, sometimes they do things unintentionally which you might not like. For ex-

Work distribution in the team unequally, they want you to work overtime. You should speak up if you have complaints, anger about certain issues, frustration about something but you have to do it calmly. If you think you will go & shout to your boss about any incident which you don’t like, then forget about making a strong relationship with your boss, you’ll get immediately fired & maybe get blacklisted for other companies as well.

And nobody wants that, so you need to express your concern peacefully & yet firmly. If you take this peaceful route, your boss will consider your words.

And you will get more courageous to speak up in front of the authority from the next time in the right way.

    Stop making excuses:

We humans always wanted to run away from troublesome situations, it’s our basic instinct. And to avoid trouble situations in the organization’s people often make excuses, because they think they’ll get away from troubling situations by using it.

But the excuses make the matter worse. So the best & latest solution to making excuses is by owning up for the mistakes which you have made.

And make a promise that you will never do it again & live up to your words in the future.

This will help you to make a good work relationship with the boss.

    Don’t Compare:

We often tend to compare each & everything about what we don’t have & what they have. It’s become a social norm to compare with each other.

And the same thing could happen to you in your work field that you are comparing your progress with other employees.

Or you even find out yourself observing that the boss is giving other employees more appreciation compared to you, the boss is being lenient with other employees, but he/she treats you differently or more strictly.

And you could come to the conclusion that your boss doesn’t like you or your work compared to the other. Let me tell you one thing, instead of focusing on this type of thing, you should focus on your work & yourself.

And if you do your work consistently better, which will help you to make good work relationships & long term relationships with your boss & everyone will cheer for your work as well.

    Do it yourself:

If you want to build a long term work relationship with your boss effectively then you must remember one thing that doesn’t reach their cabin for just the smallest problem.

If you do that it creates a bad impression that this guy/girl won’t even apply their brain to solve the problem. So try to solve all the minute problems by yourself.

This is how to manage your boss effectively, by at least try to solve the problem by yourself.

    10. Take a stand for your boss in a bad phase:

Everyone will be with you when you’re having a good time in your life, but in your low phase-only selective people stand with you.

So if your boss is going through some rough patch or not doing well, you should give your full support during their low phase. If you do this then this will create a good work relationship with your boss.

And it will create a very good image in front of your boss as well in front of your organization.

    Be Positive:

In today’s world, everyone’s complaining over a simple smaller fact. You have to go for a hunt if you want to find positivity around you.

So in your work field why don’t you become a positive being, because it’s rare these days. And rarely stand apart in the crowd.

Even if you struggle to find positivity in your life then start from today.

Positivity is all about perception, the way you look out to the world, it will become like it. When everyone will complain about everything, you will find positivity in everything.

And this habit will help you to make a good work relationship with your boss & as well with your team members.

    Conclusion:

In any kind of relationship to build you have to put time, energy, or do something for them to make them happy, to gain their trust. In simple language, treat your work relationship with your manager like any other relationship. Do the above-mentioned steps & you’ll become a master at making a good work relationship with your manager.

You have to make the first move. You can start the conversation with a friendly approach & can show your interest in what they’re doing currently in their business

And if you find the opportunity for being helpful or you can share some value from which they can get benefitted, then do share it.

This will help to form some relationships with professionals.

    5. Networking isn’t a waste of time:

    why-networking

Many business owners think that networking is a total waste of time. It doesn’t add up any value to their business. They think that instead of wasting their time doing networking, why not work which will benefit their business more.

As I said earlier if you want to get a certain level of success, then work alone, but if you want to go far ahead, then you must work with a group of people.

Don’t take networking as a waste of time, to grow your business networking is an absolute necessity. Understand the benefits of networking in business, embrace it & it’ll reward you.

As I said earlier, networking is not only about getting help from other business influentials, it’s about mutual benefit. If you provide others value, they’ll eventually help you without even thinking twice.

    6. Give value:

When you help someone, you earn respect from the other party, which will help you to bag many referrals.

It also helps you to make new connections & friendships. And the most important thing is that it will give the satisfaction of helping others.

    Conclusion:

Networking is a great way to take your business growth to the next level, networking with the right professionals. But Networking is not just for just taking advantage; it is also about giving as well.

Try to provide value to other business professionals as much as you can, because if you’re not providing any value, why would they?

    give-model

In today’s world, leaders have the most power and they have more control over where they want things to go.

People respect leaders and while even if they have more responsibilities, leaders are the ones who often get more rewards but not every person can actually be a leader.

Leadership requires skills, hard work, and sacrifice that not every person working towards his/her goals can be.

But it is not so easy to be a leader. In order to be a great leader, one must have Positive Personality Traits and that’s what the GIVE Model teaches us.

The full form of giving is Growing Integrated Virtuous Esteem. These 4 words teach us a lot about developing a positive personality. So let’s study the words one by one-

    Growing

If you are looking for ways to build a positive personality in work and life, then the first step to achieve it is self-growth. A personality trait can be more effective in a given situation only if it is linked with Growth.

Let’s understand the relevance of personal growth in your life. Having a positive personality trait helps you to grow in life and succeed.

If you are worried about growing as an individual, you must be careful not to use your personality type as an excuse for inappropriate behaviour.

In business too, a positive personality is related to the growth of the company. The profitability of the business team examines the connection between personality and company growth.

It teaches businessmen how to use the strengths of personality to grow and scale their business.

The realization that personality can be changed can lead to a better understanding of those who resist change and to the development of a positive attitude towards change.

    Integrated

The most important thing to consider when trying to develop a positive personality is that all parts of life should be integrated into a single person.

While trying to develop a positive personality, your professional life and personal life may conflict with each other. And this will, in the end, break down your real personality.

Creating and establishing a positive personality in life is an extraordinary achievement that can lead you to success earlier than other people having a bad personality.

Thus you should try to change your understanding of the human personality as soon as possible because personality forming begins in your early childhood.

But one thing you should know is that you should never fake your integrated personality.

In a simple way, it means that you shouldn’t try to pretend to be someone that you can never be.

By even making small changes, you can integrate your life and be more productive, happy, and enjoy a good life with a positive personality.

    Virtuous

Virtue is good quality or a behaviour of showing that you have high moral standards. Having high virtue can really help you to find out what your personality traits really are.

Leaders need a better understanding of how effectively they can exercise their strength of character and virtuous behaviours.

A person can have both good and bad traits, but behaviours cannot be good or evil, and the application of virtue ethics requires an understanding of the difference between the two, as well as the distinction between good behaviour and evil.

One characteristic is excellence if it is compatible with reason, which can be supported with an appropriate ethical attitude.

One of the reasons why we should give importance to Virtue is because it helps us in developing self-growth, honesty, gratitude, and character which are the most important factor for building a positive personality.

Developing virtue makes interaction with others more pleasant and helps others to think about our actions. When people show personality traits under their triggering conditions, we attribute this to virtue.

    Esteem

Do you know that self-esteem can be an important part of your success? When you have healthy self-esteem, you tend to see yourself and life in general in a positive light.

Self-esteem refers to the ability to have a positive self-image. It occurs when a person begins to appreciate and highly value these qualities and traits.

The development of self-esteem is an important step towards expanding the ability to be happy and generating a positive personality in our life.

There is a strong correlation between Esteem and happiness, as well as a high degree of satisfaction with oneself.

One way of seeing the relation is that self-esteem is rooted in our tendency to view everything related to the self in an overly positive way.

This interpretation implies that our reactions to personality products are determined by the desirability of the products and that people with high self-esteem consider themselves to be people who possess some kind of desirable attribute that they do not have or to a lesser extent.
